What We Believe

Core Beliefs

The following are the core beliefs of New River Assembly of God based on the foundational truths taught in the bible. All of our teaching and ministry is rooted in and flows out of these biblical doctrines.

The Bible

Scripture was written by human authors; under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Because it was inspired by God, the Bible is truth; it authoritative for faith and conduct.

Salvation

The Bible clearly states that the blood of Jesus Christ, shed on the cross, provides the only way of salvation through the forgiveness of sin.

The Church

We as the church are committed to the teachings of Jesus Christ and obedience to all of His commands

Trinity

We affirm there is one God who revealed himself in three persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

The Father

The Father is the creator and sustainer of all things. He is loving, compassionate, and faithful to His people and His promises.

The Son

Jesus Christ is the Son of God. Jesus is fully man, and fully God. He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary; He lived a perfect life for man’s redemption. He defeated death in His resurrection so that we could be given the opportunity for eternal life.

The Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is Lord and Giver of life, who was active in the Old Testament and given to the Church in fullness at Pentecost. He empowers believers for service and witness; convicting people of their sin, God’s righteousness, and the coming judgment.

Eternity

Man was created to live forever. He will exist either in eternal separation from God by sin, or in union with God through forgiveness and salvation. There will be a final judgment in which the dead will be resurrected and judged according to their works. Everyone whose name is not written in the Book of Life will be cast into the lake of fire. Those whose names are written in the Book of Life will be resurrected and stand at the judgment seat to be rewarded for their good deeds based on their relationship with Jesus Christ.
